OUR WORK

Every garden,
its own world.

Six residential briefs across Melbourne and the Peninsula. Three detailed studies, plus three smaller interventions in planting, access and shade.

The Lightwell

FITZROY NORTH · COURTYARD
04 / DESIGN NOTE42 m² · 2026

A 42 m² lightwell seen from three rooms. The owners wanted a green outlook and a seat for morning coffee, while keeping the existing paving and enough daylight for the rooms around it.

Scope & design response

Planting design & courtyard layout

The plan concentrates planting at the perimeter, leaving the centre open. A narrow bench sits against the warmest wall; a clear route joins the two doors. Low groundcover keeps foliage below the windows, with taller plants limited to the two corners that need screening. The planting schedule separates the brighter northern edge from the shaded beds.

What the client receivesA scaled layout, planting schedule and first-year care notes.

Under the Canopy

ELTHAM · COUNTRY GARDEN
05 / DESIGN NOTE310 m² · 2023

A 310 m² side garden beneath two mature trees. Thin lawn and a muddy shortcut made the route from the back door to the shed difficult to use through winter.

Scope & design response

Garden renewal & planting design

A continuous stone path replaces the worn shortcut, using the existing changes in level. We keep the two trees and replace struggling turf with broad beds, grouping plants by the light and moisture in each part of the garden. A small landing beside the shed leaves room to turn a wheelbarrow without brushing through the planting.

What the client receivesA path layout, materials schedule and planting plan for the shaded beds.

Dune Line

RYE · COASTAL LANDSCAPE
06 / DESIGN NOTE230 m² · 2025

A 230 m² front garden for a weekend house. The owners wanted to replace patchy lawn, keep the path to the door clear and spend less of each visit mowing.

Scope & design response

Coastal planting design

Repeated bands of low grasses and groundcover take the place of lawn. Planting stays below the front windows, with a denser strip along the road boundary. We retain the existing entry path and specify gravel mulch for the exposed beds. The handover notes set out establishment watering and seasonal cut-back work, so less lawn does not become a promise of no maintenance.

What the client receivesA planting plan, quantities and a seasonal maintenance guide.
